Software is not produced to make our lives easy and wonderful. It is designed to earn the developers a living. So, they will offer us all types of wonderful feature which we may wish to pay for. It is unfortunate when perfectly good software gets cluttered with features and advancements that deviate from it's primary purpose.

PL/SQL Developer listed below demonstrates very useful software focused on a primary goal and was the insperation for this website.

software

BeyondCompare (link)
As stated by the vendor:
"Beyond Compare is a Windows utility that combines directory compare and file compare functions in one package."
It is amazing how this product can compare files, even when in ZIPs, WARs and even JAR files withing WAR files!
EditPad (link)
As stated by the vendor:
"A fine text editor with all the necessary basic features."
A light weight choice for many programmers.
PL/SQL Developer (link)
As stated by the vendor:
"PL/SQL Developer is an Integrated Development Environment that is specifically targeted at the development of stored program units for Oracle Databases."
This software does as is stated. As much as it would be preferred that they also accommodate other databases, it is still only available for Oracle. The price is reasonable compared to other Oracle IDEs and offers (IMHO) everything needed to manage the database and develop PL/SQL code.
UltraEdit (link)
As stated by the vendor:
"UltraEdit is the world's best text editor for Windows, Mac, and Linux."
"A programmers text editor" is a good way to describe this product. As with most software, this started as a good product with a targeted purpose. Unfortunately it has succumb to over advancement. It seems to be attempting to produce a lightweight multi-language IDE. In that category of product, it is quite well done. IMHO, as a test editor, it has become cumbersome but still the preferred choice most of the time.

utilities

Icon Restore (link)
As stated by the vendor:
"Icon Restore gives you the ability to save the placement of your desktop icons and restore them to their saved placement any time they get moved."
For some reason Windows occasionally resets the desktop icons after they have been so carefully arranged. This utility allows you to save the arrangement and if Windows chooses to reset them, they can be restored to your arrangement.
Note: If the link above fails or you have trouble finding this old simple utility, don't give up. It is suggested that it may not work for Windows 10, but it does work fine for me.
